Question 1

What is Fosteo and who is it for?

Accepted Answer

Fosteo is a simple payment platform for developers, artists, writers, and freelancers worldwide. It lets you accept one-time tips, custom commissions, and monthly memberships using regular credit cards and Apple Pay, with direct digital payouts and no banking borders.

Question 2

How is Fosteo different from Patreon, Ko-fi, or Buy Me a Coffee?

Accepted Answer

Legacy platforms require you to connect your own local payment gateway account, locking out creators in over 150 countries. Fosteo acts as the official merchant for your page and pays out in digital dollars (USDC), allowing anyone in the world to get paid with zero setup paperwork.

Question 3

Do I need a registered company or a US bank account to start?

Accepted Answer

No. You just need an email address. Claim your page in 60 seconds, share your link, and start accepting payments immediately.

Question 4

I just want simple tips and donations. How does it work for me?

Accepted Answer

Add your fosteo.com/@username link to your GitHub README, X profile, YouTube bio, or blog. Anyone can send you $5, $20, or a custom amount with Apple Pay or credit card in seconds without creating an account.

Question 5

How do I use Fosteo for freelance work and custom commissions?

Accepted Answer

Share your page link or include it on your invoices. Clients enter their project brief, specifications, or reference links in the note box at checkout and pay with their card. You see their brief and payment details immediately in your studio dashboard.

Question 6

How do I deliver digital perks, downloads, or private links?

Accepted Answer

In your studio settings, set your deliverable URL (such as a Google Drive link, Figma file, GitHub repository, Discord invite, or downloadable asset) and write a custom thank-you message. Right after payment, your message and private link unlock automatically on the supporter's live receipt.

Question 7

How do recurring monthly memberships work?

Accepted Answer

Supporters can choose monthly backing during checkout and are billed automatically every month. Supporters can update their payment method or cancel anytime with one click directly from their receipt emails. As a creator, you can also manage and cancel any supporter's subscription at any time directly from your dashboard.

Question 8

How do supporters pay and what will they see on their bank statement?

Accepted Answer

Supporters pay with standard Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Apple Pay, or Google Pay. They do not need an account. Their bank statement will clearly display FOSTEO* [YOUR HANDLE].

Question 9

Do supporters get an invoice or tax receipt?

Accepted Answer

Yes. An itemized digital receipt is emailed automatically to every supporter right after checkout, which clients and sponsors can use for expense reports and tax deductions.

Question 10

What information do I see about my supporters?

Accepted Answer

You see their name, email, country, contribution amount, date, and any project brief or note they left at checkout.

Question 11

How do I withdraw my earnings to my local bank?

Accepted Answer

Withdrawals are settled in digital US dollars (USDC) with zero platform fees. You receive your funds directly to your payout address, which you can deposit into your local bank account or preferred payment account in your local currency at any time.

Question 12

What currency do I receive and how do payouts work?

Accepted Answer

Payouts are sent in USDC (a regulated digital dollar pegged 1:1 with USD) over the Base network with $0 withdrawal fees. You can withdraw to your destination address whenever your available balance reaches $10.

Question 13

Why does Fosteo pay out in USDC on Base instead of international bank transfers?

Accepted Answer

Traditional international SWIFT wire transfers take 3 to 5 business days, get rejected frequently, and banks often deduct $30 to $50 in intermediary wire fees. By using USDC on Base, your payout arrives in seconds anywhere in the world with zero withdrawal fees from Fosteo.

Question 14

Why is there a 7-day clearing period before I can withdraw?

Accepted Answer

All payments have a standard 7-day security period to protect against card fraud and chargebacks. Once cleared, funds move directly into your available balance for withdrawal.

Question 15

Do I have to enter a payout address when I sign up?

Accepted Answer

No. You can start receiving support immediately and only add your payout address when you are ready to withdraw.

Question 16

How much does Fosteo cost?

Accepted Answer

Fosteo charges a flat 5% platform fee plus standard card processing (up to 4.4% + $0.35 per transaction), charged only when you earn. There are no monthly subscriptions, setup fees, or withdrawal fees. Supporters can also choose to cover card processing at checkout so you keep 100% of your earnings.

Question 17

Who handles taxes?

Accepted Answer

You are responsible for reporting and paying your own local income taxes. Fosteo does not deduct or withhold taxes from your payouts. When required for standard tax compliance, we may ask you to complete Form W-8BEN (for non-US creators) or Form W-9 (for US creators). If you are unable to provide the required tax form when requested, we may be required by U.S. tax regulations to withhold up to 30% backup withholding tax from your disbursements.

Question 18

What businesses and content are prohibited?

Accepted Answer

We comply with standard payment processor and card network acceptable use policies. Prohibited activities include adult or sexually explicit (NSFW) content, gambling, weapons, hate speech, illegal activities, multi-level marketing, and unregistered charitable or political fundraising.

Question 19

What happens if a customer asks for a refund or files a dispute?

Accepted Answer

Because digital deliverables and commissions grant immediate access, payments are generally final. If a supporter requests a refund or files a bank dispute, we will contact you for details. Disputed amounts and any associated dispute fees are deducted from your ledger balance. If the dispute is resolved in your favor, the funds are restored to your account.

Question 20

Do I keep full ownership and copyright of my work?

Accepted Answer

Yes, 100%. You retain full ownership, copyright, and intellectual property rights over all your creative work, code, and deliverables.
